Cuba 1903 - EDIFIL 77(ip) - 160x89mm, Knife 81 stamped envelope used in 1909.
The 1903 2c carmine on white Christopher Columbus stamped envelope used in 1909 from within Havana. Privately printed corner card of: West India Oil Company, San Ignacio 64, Habana, Cuba. - Indicium cancelled with scarcer roller-canceller of HABANA - CUBA - DIC. 17, 1909. - The West India Oil Company was a subsidiary of The Standard Oil Companay of New Jersey operating in Cuba. The Raffloer Erbsloh Co. was a New York based company that manufactured cordage (rope) from henequen grown in Cuba. The 2012 EDIFIL catalogue prices an "identical" envelope (same corner card and addressee) at 95,- (US $130.00). Cleanly opened at top and very clean overall.
