Cuba 1882 - EDIFIL 15a Very scarce Type I, 2c dark green and orange on buff Postal Card. This Type I card shows the "r" of "Sr" ending on a dot rather than on a downwards stroke, that for the year 1882, turned out to be scarcer than Type II. Indicium cancelled with a perfect strike of an extremely rare oval handstamp of: Admon. de Correos - BARACOA - Mar. 21, 1883 applied in purple. Actually, this card was sent from Havana to Baracoa. It appears as if the card escaped cancellation at Havana so the Baracoa Post Office applied their own cancellation. There are some small faults, mainly a sealed tear, about 9mm long at the upper margin slightly to the left of the indicium and a couple of small and light stains, also at the upper margin. Listed by EDIFIL as No. 15a and priced in the 2002 edition of the catalog at € 240,- or around US $310.00.- at the current rate of exchange. |
